Resource Officer
"The
police are the public and the public are the police. The police being the only
members of the public that are paid to give full-time attention to duties which
are incumbent on every citizen, in the interests of community welfare and
existence.” A quote from Sir Robert Peel – 1829.
The
Scarborough Police Department is working to increase the interactions between
the community and the Police. Through
this interaction partnerships are formed and the community is better served.
Partnerships with civic groups and other municipal departments increases
the efficiency and effectiveness of the Police Department. Citizen involvement
is essential to maintaining that high quality of life experienced in
Scarborough.
One
of the functions of the Community Resource Officer is to build these
partnerships. Other duties include
responding to citizen complaints regarding quality of life issues (non
emergency), facilitate neighborhood problem solving meetings, collect /analyze
traffic data, public education, Police/Community relations and public
information dissemination.
