Scarborough Fire/Police Officer
The Town of Scarborough employs a team that is responsible for assisting the Police and Fire Department’s other personnel with traffic control at planned and emergency events. These Fire / Police Officers respond to emergency police, fire, and rescue calls to assist with protecting lives and property by helping with securing the scenes. They are responsible for traffic control, road closures, and directing the flow of pedestrian traffic. This work often comes at times when weather conditions are anything but comfortable. Fire / Police Officers are given pagers, and they are often times called upon to respond to these situations at a moments notice.
Fire / Police Officers also perform the same function at planned events where assistance with traffic, parking, and pedestrians is needed. This includes, but is not limited to, sporting events, cultural events, polls, construction jobs, and other community functions where groups of people are gathering. The officers are usually scheduled in advance for these types of functions.
Fire / Police Officers are supervised by Administrative Personnel from the Police and Fire Departments. There is a Captain’s Position in the Fire / Police ranks which is currently held by, Merle Cook. There is also a Lieutenant’s position that Robert Meserve is assigned to. The rest of the members of the unit are assigned as officers.
