Animal Control
![]()
The animal control division consists of one full time officer and part time reserve officers during the summer months. Duties include enforcing Town Ordinances and State Animal Welfare Laws, also wild animal nuisance calls. The division averages about 1,000- 1,500 calls per year.
The following are a list of helpful reminders concerning dogs:
Dogs must be licensed every year(Jan.1-Dec.31) to obtain a license dogs must be up to date on their rabies vaccination.
Another concern about dogs is the "leash law". The Town of Scarborough does not have a leash law, but dogs must be under voice command by their owners and the owner must have a leash on his/her person to restrain their dogs if not under voice command.
Just a couple of comments concerning wild animals in our town. Wild animals or domestic animals you are unfamiliar with should not be fed. If you are unsure about the animals behavior please contact the police department ,or the Game Wardens office if it's a wild animal.
